The Club of Budapest mourns about Chingiz Aitmatov

Source: Andreas Zak

Sadly we announce the passing away of world known writer Chingiz Aitmatov. Aged 79, after catching pneumonia he has died of lung and kidney failure in a hospital in Nuremberg, Germany, on June 10th. Since its founding he was an Honorary Member of the Club of Budapest and ever since he shared its goals and was strongly connected to its mission.
Chingiz Aitmatov was a prolific writer whose works have been translated into more than 150 languages with over 40 million copies sold worldwide. Among his best known works, which had won him several awards, are „Jamilia“ and „The Day Lasts More Than a Hundred Years“. As a leading intellctual he supported Mikhail Gorbachev in bringing about his perestroika. Reflecting this his novel „The Scaffold“ was awarded at the Frankfurt Bookfair in 1988, when he was appointed Honorary Guest. After the Soviet Union's demise in 1991, Aitmatov served as Kyrgyzstan's envoy to the Benelux, France, NATO and UNESCO. In our opinion the President of Ukraine Victor Yushenko found the right words to commemorate Chingiz Aitmatov, when he said: „The bright image and meteorous talent of this true expert of people’s souls will keep on living in our memories and hearts forever serving a vivid example of humanism for future generations.“

38% Cultural Creatives in France

For the first time in France we have numbers reflecting the rise of a new culture: 17% of the French population can clearly be defined as cultural creatives. Together with another 21% of so called creative individualists they form a subculture of 38% of all inhabitants of France which has the potential of changing the society. The international cultural creatives survey and support of the rise of an intgegral culture is one of the main projects of the WorldShift Network. Only recently the international survey research team met in Amsterdam and developed a ten years plan in order to strengthen the cultural creative movement throughout the societies worldwide. Results of the survey in France have now been published in a book edited by the leader of the French team, Yves Michel, "Les Créatifs Culturels en France". To be obtained through Amazon.

Global Change is a Matter of Consciousness

The shift to the one united world begins where spirit and emotion combine into a new symbiosis, and where integrity and unity become an active personal experience. The German title of the new book by Hans Jecklin „Eine Welt oder keine“ translates into „One World – or None“. It is a very personal study into the author’s own development from a successful capitalist to an influential social business entrepreneur and consultant. Jecklin is not merely bashing the alarming global developments, instead he offers a positive worldview and adds insightful proposals about how to actively find the path leading to economic justice, political freedom, careful use of nature’s ressources and a peaceful, truly human co-existence. Jecklin’s book is a gem for all those who cherish the power of spirituality not only for their own wellbeing but rather as a means to actively bring about the one world we are all dreaming of. Not just another book about the global crisis, but one of the rare types, which flow directly from the heart, touching its reader’s mind with its honesty and authenticity. Strongly recommended for translation into English. To be ordered by Amazon.de.

Dialogue Ervin Laszlo and Peter Russell

The Shift in Action Program of our partner Institute of Noetic Sciences contains a remarkable series of video dialogues between enlightened speakers. The latest dialogue pairs two of the most prolific and insightful big picture visionaries of our day: Ervin Laszlo, founder of the Club of Budapest, and CoB Honorary Member Peter Russell. For decades, they have been at the forefront of waking up humanity to the perils ahead and the path to a more conscious global culture. Their discussion covers the acceleration of growth, the crises that follow, and the imperative changes required to move from a materialistic and unsustainable way of life to one in which we respect the limits of growth and learn to live joyfully within them. They also cover the role of the global media, survival drives, and hopeful new signs in an emerging generation.
Access to the video dialogue series via the homepage of the Shift in Action Program.

Fire and Ice Ceremony

Source: Creative Commons

The Fire and Ice Ceremony for the Earth will take place in 2009. It will be a powerful three-day cross-cultural gathering of deliberation, ceremony, and celebration, the objective of which touches the welfare of the world. A principal objective is the return of the sacred fire in fulfillment of prophetic tradition. For the first time in memory the sacred fire will be home. The ceremony will revolve around the physical fire but the most important element will be the spiritual fire, the spirit of which the physical fire is a symbol. It is a symbol of countless generations of indigenous people who have met around it to consider how to live well on the land given to them and how to relate well to the Creator and to one another. The lessons of the ice will also be prominent, both in helping us all recognize our common humanity, and in developing common perspectives raised by the melting ice and global climate change.

In coming June a preparatory meeting will take place to which the WorldShift Network recently was invited. Here some excerpts from the touching letter in Inuktitut and in English:

”Nuannaarutigeqalugu aasaru Uge 26-mi 2208-mi Sisimiut illoqarfiani Kattuffik “Utoqqaat Nipaat” ataatsimeeruarnerani najuuteqqullusi qaaqquassi.
